BAC S1500E Cooling Tower
The BAC S15E 1018-10-LE is a high-performance open cooling tower from the S1500E series by Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC).
This specific model is designed for industrial cooling applications and large HVAC systems where high efficiency and ease of maintenance are top priorities.

Cooling Capacity

An open evaporative cooling tower does not possess a single, fixed kW cooling capacity, as the actual performance depends entirely on thermodynamic ambient conditions and system temperatures.

The model is designed for maximum flow rates of up to 198 liters per second. Under typical industrial or standard HVAC conditions, the nominal cooling capacity of this model ranges from approximately 1,200 kW to 2,100 kW.


Why does cooling capacity vary?

Wet-bulb temperature (ambient air): The cooler and drier the ambient air, the more water can evaporate, resulting in a higher cooling capacity.

Water temperatures: Performance varies significantly depending on the incoming hot water temperature (e.g., 35 °C) and the outgoing cold water temperature (e.g., 29 °C).

Air volume flow: According to BAC’s technical specifications, the S15E 1018-10 LE model actively moves 60.0 m³/s of air using three installed 11.0 kW fan motors.

If this airflow volume is reduced via a variable frequency drive (e.g., during night operation or in winter), the cooling capacity decreases in a controlled manner.

Approach: This represents the most critical thermodynamic limit. It describes the temperature difference between the desired cold water temperature and the prevailing wet-bulb temperature. The closer the cold water is required to be cooled to the wet-bulb temperature (i.e., a smaller approach), the lower the cooling capacity the tower can deliver. Technical Specifications:
