HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
With this process, metal parts are machined contact-free and with high precision. An electrically conductive electrolyte—saltwater—is introduced between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). This electrolyte removes the ionized material from the machining gap between the electrode and the workpiece via anodic dissolution.
The electrode is mapped inversely onto the metal surface. The targeted current pulses, oscillating tool electrode, and the extremely small working gap form the basis for the precision of this technology. The PECM process is an advancement of conventional electrochemical machining.
By using synchronized current pulses and an oscillating tool electrode, PEMTec enables a very small machining gap. This allows highly precise and economical manufacturing without any process-related tool wear.
Absolutely contactless, and free from thermal or mechanical impact, workpieces are produced with profile accuracy and repeatability down to the low micrometer range, and a surface finish of up to 0.03 µm.
