THE COLD CHAIN SHOULD NOT END WHERE THE PAVED ROAD DOES
Temperature-sensitive cargo does not care how difficult the route becomes.
- Food still needs to arrive in the right condition.
- Fresh produce still needs protection.
- Remote projects still need reliable supplies.
And customers still expect the cold chain to remain intact from loading point to final destination. That is why this Mercedes-Benz Atego 1725A Refrigerated Truck combines professional refrigerated transport with 4x4 mobility. A 245 HP Mercedes-Benz drivetrain provides the power. Front and rear differential locks provide additional traction. An insulated GRP body protects the load. And Carrier refrigeration equipment provides the cooling capability required for temperature-controlled distribution. One refrigerated truck built to keep moving when conventional delivery routes become more demanding.

4x4 – Because Cold-Chain Logistics Goes Beyond the Highway.
A standard refrigerated truck works well when every delivery point is connected by good roads.
But not every supply chain works that way. Agricultural regions, mining sites, infrastructure projects, construction camps and remote communities can require temperature-controlled cargo to travel far beyond conventional urban distribution routes. That is where the Atego's 4x4 drivetrain becomes valuable.
Differential locks are fitted to both the front and rear axles, helping the truck maintain traction when the surface becomes loose or difficult. The Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder engine produces 245 HP / 180 kW, while the G 85-6 manual transmission and VG550 transfer case provide the robust drivetrain behind the 4x4 system. Cold-chain transport with the mobility to reach more demanding destinations.
A Refrigerated Body Built Around Cargo Protection
The refrigerated body is approximately five metres long and constructed using insulated GRP sandwich panels.
The principle is simple:
- Keep external heat outside.
- Keep the controlled environment inside.
The side walls and roof use 50 mm insulation enclosed between gel-coated GRP layers, with additional structural reinforcement incorporated into the panels. The floor takes thermal protection even further. An 80 mm insulated floor construction combines insulation, GRP, marine plywood and a chequered or raindrop aluminium upper surface. The result is a body designed around the requirements of professional temperature-controlled transport.
